History of Pagan Parents

In February of 2005 I signed up with a "pagan parenting" group in my local area at meetup.com. I quickly found that it was a small group that needed more advertising in order to connect with more of the pagan parents in my area. Discussion with the group’s organizer, RainMoon, led to the idea of a web site where people could come in the privacy of their own homes and see what the group was all about. Since I have some experience with web design, I volunteered to take on the role of webmaster and set the site up.

In the search to see what similar sites were out on the web already, I saw that most were set up as groups on yahoo.com or msn.com. There are some informational pages out there, but I haven’t really found much yet that is dedicated to parenting when “pagan” or other alternative spiritual beliefs are concerned. Thus, I decided that this site should become an open forum to the pagan parenting community and others who are trying to raise their children outside the usual religious communities. Pagan is a very broad term and can encompass a whole lot of like-minded individuals with vastly different outlooks. But, as parents, we have something in common - we all want to raise our children in the best way possible.

I hope that this site can be a portal to help people find the groups near them where they can make friends for both themselves and the children they are raising. We also have a discussion board so that people across the country and even the world can talk with one another about ideas, problems, solutions and other topics relating to parenting. Our links page will hopefully give you some other areas of interest and insight to explore. In time, I hope that we can also provide some insightful essays and articles, as well as a list of the holidays that pagans generally celebrate with some information on why and how. Further, we are open to suggestions on expanding the site in currently unforseen directions, in order to better both ourselves and our children through community and education.

Stay true to your soul,
